Apprenticeships
What is an apprenticeship? Apprenticeships offer a unique blend of work experience and academic study. Candidates on an apprenticeship will work a paid job while simultaneously working towards a relevant qualification in their chosen field. Employers work with the universities to create a bespoke degree programme which leads to a degree but is tailored to meet the specific academic and vocational needs of that particular employer.

Apprenticeship information guide
Preparation is key. It is highly competitive and demand outstrips supply and last year 1000 applications were received for 82 vacancies.
Ask yourself: Why am I applying for an apprenticeship? What kind of learner am I? Am I able to work alongside/be mentored by a wide age range of people? Include information about your extra curricular activities; provide an evidence portfolio, where appropriate (ie constructing/making/designing); attend an open day; research/show knowledge about your chosen apprenticeship area and the company itself. Be aware that Sellafield is one employer among many that offer apprenticeships and so your personal statement should not focus on the company but the role itself.
Apply the STAR method to interview questions.

Can I choose which university I study at?
Unfortunately not. Each company has set up a programme for the Degree Apprentices in conjunction with a partner university. Some companies may have more than one university, but generally you will be expected to study at the university your employer has partnered with to deliver the Degree apprenticeship
